Newlywed Kelsea Ballerini is gushing about her wedding to Morgan Evans and being on tour with her idols, Lady Antebellum.
The 24-year-old country music star tied the knot in December in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and while she says the night was “magical,” it was all thanks to a wedding planner.
“Thank God I’m not a wedding person!” she tells ET Canada’s Matte Babel during the 2018 Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. “The moment we decided to do it, I was like, ‘I don’t care about this stuff. Do you? No? Okay, let’s get a wedding planner.'”
Ballerini said “I do” with fellow Australian country singer Morgan, toasting their vows with tequila shots.
“I never thought I wanted a big wedding and I’m so glad we had one,” she says.
While the singer is very happily in love now, she is grateful for a past relationship that left her heartbroken because it fuelled the material on her latest album, “Apologetically”.
“I’m so grateful to that person and for that relationship because I probably wouldn’t even be with Morgan,” she explains. “I feel like every relationship has a purpose and that was for me to learn what I do and don’t want and how I should and shouldn’t be treated. Meeting Morgan right after that made me appreciate him like I should.”
A country music fan first, Ballerini was a huge fan of her current tour partners Lady Antebellum.
“I have pictures with them as a fan!” she reveals excitedly. “Just to be able to wait in line for them as a 13-year-old and save up to see them in nosebleeds. And [now] to be able to open for them and go to the soundbooth and watch them every night. There are certain people I’ve broken through the artist thing with and we know when we’re in artist mode but we’re proper friends.”
She counts Lady A’s Hillary Scott and Taylor Swift among what she calls “sweat pant friends,” those she’s happy to be herself around. It’s also the side of her she wants her fans to get to know.
“Really early on I posted about drinking wine, which sounds silly, but I just wanted there to be this openness of ‘This is who I am.’ I try to be a good person and I drink wine,” she says. “I’m a human.”
