Game Politics Meet Real World Politics On ‘Celebrity Big Brother’

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t watched tonight’s episode of “Celebrity Big Brother” on Global!, then STOP READING NOW! Spoilers lie ahead….

Who would have thought “Celebrity Big Brother” would be at the center of political discourse in 2018? It’s a show that regularly features a character called Zingbot – hardly the place you’d visit for the latest White House gossip, and yet, today, the deputy White House press secretary had to combat a question regarding comments made by Omarosa on “Celebrity Big Brother.” It’s like living in a twisted episode of “Black Mirror.”

Omarosa’s willingness to open up about her time in Donald Trump’s government is pure headline fodder. “I felt like it was a call of duty. I felt like I was serving my country, not him” she tells Ross Matthews, who questioned why she decided to take the role in the first place. “I was haunted by his tweets every single day,” she continues over the ultra-dramatic incidental music. “Things are bad.”

When the TV host turned investigative journalist asks if she’d vote for Trump again, a tearful Omarosa tells him in no uncertain terms, “God, no. Never. In a million years, never.” It’s just such a surreal conversation to see on a show where if the houseguests aren’t talking about strategy they’re usually talking about romantic hook-ups and workout regimes. It’s a far cry from last season when the main topic of discussion was “meatballs”.

Perhaps even more compelling than the White House talk is a profoundly personal conversation between Omarosa and former “Cosby Show” actor Keshia Knight Pulliam. When Omarosa tells Shannon Elizabeth that it’s been “incredibly hard” losing friends and support because of her loyalty to Trump, Keshia points out that she must have known that standing by the President made it seem like she supported the hate his campaign incited.

Never one to back down, Omarosa compares the situation to Keshia’s relationship with Bill Cosby. “You stood strong by somebody who you have known and have been loyal to and who [has] supported you, and people judged you for that. But only you know the inner workings of your relationship with Mr. Cosby,” the former “Apprentice” star says. “That’s the same thing with me and Mr. Trump.”

The real world politics are unfortunately more interesting than the current “Big Brother” game politics. The line remains firmly drawn between men and women, as Head of Household Shannon gathers the girls and brings on board Ross as a secret spy. Shannon certainly has a knack for the game but is already coming off as a major threat, to the point where other houseguests are straight-up telling her to her face. Things look sweet as American pie right now, but the game could soon gobble her up.

Luckily for Shannon, the guys don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Meta World Peace is already asking to be sent home because he misses his wife. Chuck Liddell is partaking in avocado facials and manicures just to try and fit in. James Maslow thinks he’s god’s gift to the “Big Brother” house. And Mark McGrath is walking around telling the HOH how big of a threat he thinks she is. Also, Chuck and James name their alliance “The Celebrators,” which sounds more like the name of a party planning company than a feared partnership.

The only thing that could mess things up for the women is the looming threat of the celebrity gift bags. One of the bags contains the power to “recast” the current HOH, meaning that if one of the guys get it, they could usurp Shannon and put two girls up on the block. The catch is, only one houseguest can open their bag, and they have to declare in the Diary Room if they wish to do so. If more than one person declares, then a random draw will determine who gets the privilege.

Despite Shannon promising the men safety in exchange for not opening their bags, Chuck goes rogue and enters the Diary Room. As a result, all the women follow suit, except for a sneaky Marissa Jaret Winokur, who only pretends to ask, very cunning!

It’s bad luck for Chuck, as Keshia ends up winning the random draw and the recast power, meaning she is the new HOH. Keshia quickly makes her presence felt by nominating the UFC legend alongside his alliance mate James, who she deems the biggest threats in the house. No celebrating for The Celebrators!

Who will win the Power of Veto? Who will be evicted? And what will Omarosa reveal next? Find out as “Celebrity Big Brother” continues tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
