The memory of Trayvon Martin lives on in the hearts and minds of many, including Jay-Z.
Jay-Z talked about Martin at the sixth annual “Peace Walk & Talk” gathering in Miami, Florida on Saturday.
“Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to all the people out here so you guys would never have to go through the pain and the hurt these guys went through,” said Jay-Z according to Karen Civil. “His name will sit alongside some of the greats whom lost their life to push our culture forward.”
“The Martin Luther Kings, the Ghandis, that’s the intention that we set, that his name serves as a beacon of light and hope and push us in a better direction,” he continued.
The “4:44” rapper was heavily affected by Martin’s fatal shooting at the hands of neighbour George Zimmerman. In 2013, JAY-Z established a relationship with the teen’s family at the “Justice for Trayvon Martin” assembly in New York City.
Last year, the 21-time Grammy winner also announced he was working on a docu-series based on Martin’s life expected to premiere on the Paramount Network.
