‘Fifty Shades Freed’ Dominates ‘Peter Rabbit’ In Opening Weekend

“Fifty Shades Freed” is whipping the competition into submission in its first weekend of release, dominating the weekend box office with a domestic debut of $38.8 million, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The third film in the erotic S&M trilogy may be significantly down from its predecessors (“Fifty Shades Darker” opened to $46.6 million last year, while “Fifty Shades of Grey” enjoyed a hefty $85.2-million opening weekend in 2015), but it still managed to outpace star-studded animated comedy “Peter Rabbit” and the Clint Eastwood-directed “15:17 to Paris”, which also opened this weekend.

Featuring a voice cast that includes James Corden, Daisy Ridley, and Margot Robbie, “Peter Rabbit” landed at #2 in the weekend box office after taking in an estimated $25 million, while Eastwood’s latest brought in $12.6 million to capture the #3 spot.

Rounding out the top five are last weekend’s #1 flick, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, in fourth place with $9.8 million (and a total domestic take of $365.7 million to date) and “The Greatest Showman” in fifth place with $6.8 million this weekend.
