Deadline reports that the director’s upcoming film “The Irishman” has racked up a budget of over $140 million. Currently “Hugo” is the most expensive movie Scorsese has made, at a budget of $150 million.

The film, which stars Robert De Niro as mobster Frank Sheeran, had been originally pegged at costing over $100 million to produce.

Due to the high budget for the film, Scorsese’s longtime studio partner Paramount decided not to make the film, allowing Netflix to step in with an agreed budget of $125 million.

According to IndieWire, along with a big payday of $10-15 million for Scorsese, a huge portion of the budget is going toward visual effects to de-age De Niro.
