Announced as the cover star Tuesday was 24-year-old Danielle Herrington, making her only the third black woman to be featured in the coveted position since the magazine’s inception in 1964, according to The Associated Press.

Beyonce was the Sports Illustrated swimsuit star in 2007, and Tyra Banks got the honour in both 1996 and 1997.

Herrington is a relative newcomer, first appearing in the pages of last year’s swimsuit issue as one of Sports Illustrated’s Rookies.

“I can’t even believe I’m saying this. I am the 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model,” Herrington said. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I’m emotional, but I just want to say thank you to everyone who believed in me. I put in so much work for this and I’m feeling very accomplished, happy and excited.”

The 2018 Swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated is on sale now.
