Kiefer Sutherland Says ‘Designated Survivor’ Is Tough In This Political Climate

Kiefer Sutherland has admitted playing an unqualified president on “Designated Survivor” is hard in this particular political era.

In an interview on Global’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, the Canadian actor opened up about what it’s like to be part of such a politically driven show, “It’s a challenge to write a political show at this precise moment,” he told host Stephen Colbert.

And with Donald Trump as President in the United States, Sutherland says it is difficult to come up with an exciting storyline, “You got nine or 10 writers sitting in a room trying to think of something that’s going to be just shocking and unbelievable and I think they’re having a pretty tough time.”

“I am aware,” Colbert added. “Reality tends to leapfrog you no matter what you think of.”

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
