Jay-Z warned everyone when he said, “Watch the Throne”.
The legendary hip-hop artist and business mogul broke Diddy’s seven-year streak as hip hop’s wealthiest act.
Forbes released its annual rankings on Thursday and revealed Jay-Z to be the highest earning hip hop artist of 2018 with an estimated net worth of $900 million. Among his many achievements last year was the release of his critically-acclaimed album “4:44”, which snagged eight Grammy nominations.
Jay-Z’s stakes in Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Usse cognac steadily rose in value, in addition to his work with Tidal and Roc Nation.
Diddy, 48, remains more active as an entrepreneur than a rapper and managed an estimated net worth of $825 million, no small feat. The icon Dr. Dre placed in third with a staggering $770 million.
What followed was a steep decline to the fourth and fifth richest hip-hop acts of the year: Drake and Eminem earned profits of $100 million each in 2018.
