Jennifer Lawrence is back kicking butt on the big screen, stepping into the shoes of a fallen ballerina, turned Russia spy in “Red Sparrow”. The 27-year-old star sat down with Roz Weston to share why there couldn’t be a better time for her new film to come out.
“We started making it three years ago,” she says. “Then with the election and everything going on with [the #MeToo] movement… watching this abuse and manipulation through the lens of a woman who’s regaining her own power, it just couldn’t be a better time for this film.”

The film has made headlines for its brutal sex scenes, a topic Lawrence has already spoken out about as having an “empowering” effect on her. Opening up to Vanity Fair recently about her own nude scandal, the actress said the film helped her to take back her own identity after nude photos were taken from her phone in a hacking scandal back in 2014.
“My biggest fear was that people would say, ‘Oh, how can you complain about the hack if you’re going to get nude anyway?’,” the actress told the magazine. “One is my choice. I got something back that was taken from me, and it also felt normal.”

The actress continued this sentiment in our interview, telling Roz the role was “very empowering, almost healing” adding, “other than the terrible torture scenes, to watch these women be used and abused and turn the whole thing on their head and end up regaining their freedom and coming out on top using their intelligence.”
“There is no nudity in a sexual context,” the actress continues, revealing that was a creative decision made between her and the director of the film Francis Lawrence. “The nudity is used to show the brutality and it’s devastating and inhumane and really troubling.”
