With the success of his debut studio album “Syre”, Jaden Smith reveals he has lost some famous friends.
Speaking with Complex magazine, the 19-year-old son of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith claims he is now seen as a threat amongst rapper friends, like Drake, Kanye and Donald Glover, due to his rising success on the music charts.
“It’s really changed,” Smith explains of his friendships. “I always felt like the Little Homie before and that allowed me in all of their circles. But now that I’m on the charts next to them, I’m not really Little Homie anymore.”
Revealing a heightened sense of competition, he clarifies, “It’s more like, ‘You can’t hang with us anymore. We didn’t know you were making an album this whole time. We thought you were just Little Homie giving us free water and sh*t.'”
After releasing his album this past November, Smith’s “Syre” debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200 chart and the artist has since announced a North American “Vision Tour”.
Meanwhile, Smith is also busy promoting his eco-friendly bottled water company, JUST Water, with his famous dad. “It’s been such a breath of fresh air to show people this side of us,” he tells the magazine. “This is us trying to help the world.”
