Each year just ahead of the Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Awards shines the spotlight not on excellence but on awfulness, focusing on the worst movies of the year.

For the 2018 Razzies, one film stood out among all the rest: “The Emoji Movie”, which captured the dubious honour of winning this year’s Worst Picture award.

“Leading this year’s list of movie-misfires is the emoticon-based, talking poop opus,” the Razzies said in a statement announcing this year’s winners, quipping that “The Emoji Movie” still managed to stand out in a year when “Hollywood’s recycled trash heap attained an all-time high” and experienced a “toxic-level lack of originality.”

“The Emoji Movie”, in fact, won four of the 10 Razzies awarded this year, also capturing Worst Screenplay, Worst Director and Worst Screen Combo (for “any two obnoxious emojis”).

The Worst Actor award went to Tom Cruise for big-budget flop “The Mummy”, while Tyler Perry took Worst Actress for “BOO! 2: A Madea Halloween”.

Mel Gibson was named Worst Supporting Actor for “Daddy’s Home 2”, with Kim Bassinger nabbing Worst Supporting Actress for “Fifty Shades Darker”. “Fifty Shades Darker” also took the award for “Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel”.

“Baywatch” was the inaugural recipient of The Razzie So Rotten You Loved It award.

The prize went to the film deemed unfairly nominated for the Razzies, as voted by website readers on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Baywatch” star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson humbly and hilariously accepted the award in a Twitter video.

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
