“Black Panther” has roared its way to the top of the weekend box office for the third consecutive week, taking in another $65.7 million in its third weekend of release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest Marvel movie continued to easily dominate the box office, boasting a three-week cumulative gross of more than $500 million to date.
With a domestic gross of more than $500 million (so far), “Black Panther” is now one of the top 10 highest-grossing releases domestically in film history, and is currently the third-highest-grossing superhero flick of all time, behind only “The Dark Knight Rises” ($534.9 million) and fellow Marvel offering “The Avengers” ($623.4 million) — which THR points out “Black Panther” may eventually top.
“Black Panther” is also doing brisk business overseas, with a worldwide box office take of $897.8 million and counting.
The news was not so good for “Red Sparrow”, with the Jennifer Lawrence-starring spy flick earning just $17 million domestically in its debut weekend to land in the #2 spot.
Coming in third was “Death Wish”, with the Bruce Willis-starring remake of the Charles Bronson classic bringing in $13 million.
Rounding out the top five were “Game Night” at fourth place, earning an additional $10.7 million in its second weekend, and “Peter Rabbit”, which brought in an estimated $10 million this weekend.
