Mark Bridges had an incredible night, winning the Oscar for Best Costume Design, plus a jet ski.
At the beginning of the show, host Jimmy Kimmel announced that the person who helped things move along faster by delivering the shortest acceptance speech would win a jet ski, “The Price is Right”-style.
Bridges, who won his award for “Phantom Thread” early on in the night, spent a grand total of 36 seconds thanking colleagues, friends and family, according to Kimmel.
Gary Oldman said: “I’m not going to get the ski,” during his lengthy Best Actor acceptance speech.
Amazingly, nobody for the rest of the Oscars broadcast bothered trying to match Bridges’ fast time, perhaps thinking the jet ski prize was a joke.
But the joke was on them when, at the very end of the night, Bridges rode out onto the stage on the jet ski wearing a life vest, with Helen Mirren as his passenger.
Twitter applauded Bridges winning the literal biggest prize of the night.
