Lana Del Rey Covers Madonna’s ‘You Must Love Me’ From ‘Evita’

Lana Del Rey is no stranger when it comes to the art of covering songs.

On Monday, the 32-year-old singer, who is best known for her mashups of pop, soul and jazz, released her own cover of Madonna’s “You Must Love Me” song from the soundtrack of the 1996 film, “Evita”.

The romantic tune, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, was an instant hit, winning the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1997.

Keeping true to the original song’s striking piano arrangement, Rey gives her own romantic rendition with the addition of strings and her famed soft vocals.

The new cover is set to appear on “Unmasked: The Platinum Collection”, a song compilation in celebration of Webber’s 70th birthday. Set to be released on March 16, the compilation will also feature artists like Beyonce and Barbra Streisand.

Speaking of the cover, NME magazine reports Rey said: “Andrew Lloyd Webber has been one of my primary inspirations in music, so to do a cover of one of his songs is a dream.”
