Fox is airing the special “O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession” on Sunday. Exactly 25 years prior, “The Simpsons” aired the episode “Last Exit to Springfield”, which was supposed to feature a cameo from the now disgraced NFLer.

“Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean revealed as much on Twitter. “Ironically ‘O.J. Simpson’ airs on Fox 25 years to the day after the episode we asked him to be in (pre-murders) and he turned down,” wrote Jean.

Responding to a fan question, Jean said, “fortunately he passed and we got Dr. Joyce.”
