Viewers were left stunned by Wednesday’s “This Morning” after it accidentally played Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” over a Stephen Hawking tribute.

The U.K. morning show made sure to honour the renowned theoretical physicist after he passed away at 76, but viewers were left cringing when the tribute didn’t exactly go to plan.

As hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield brought the show to an end, the latter explained of Hawking: “He leaves behind a huge legacy, not just as a mathematician and astrophysicist, but also an inspiration to millions.”

Once Trainor’s smash hit proceeded to play, bosses quickly replaced the music with the sound of the beloved scientist’s voicebox but not before more attentive viewers picked up on the awkward mishap.

One person labelled the show “a mess,” while another joked the person responsible “had one job.” Trainor’s interview is due to air on the show Thursday.

The cringeworthy moment came after news of Hawking’s death broke Wednesday morning.

His children confirmed in a statement: “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.

“His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’ We will miss him forever.”
