Ben Platt is among the hopeful actors looking to be cast in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of iconic Broadway musical “West Side Story”, and sent in an audition tape of himself singing one of the show’s signature numbers, “Maria”.
However, Platt also took to social media to make the unusual move of sharing his audition tape with the world, and explained why.
“Actors spend lots of time making tapes that never see the light of day- usually embarrassing, poorly shot ones,” wrote the “Dear Evan Hansen” star on Twitter.
“This one I liked (it’s still poorly shot) so I’m sharing it,” added Platt. “I encourage fellow actors to do the same so long as the material is public stuff.”
Platt’s message did not fall upon deaf ears; shortly after he shared his video, former “Glee” star Naya Rivera followed suit by sharing her audition video for “West Side Story”, singing the iconic song “America”. Watch:
