If there’s one thing you should know about Kim Cattrall, it’s that she doesn’t like being called childless.
The 59-year-old actress is one lady who considers herself a mom even without having any of her own offspring. How, you might ask? Well, it’s simple.
“I am not a biological parent,”; she says, “but I am a parent. I have young actors and actresses that I mentor, I have nieces and nephews that I am very close to,” the star told BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour on Monday.
Cattrall says that having offspring is not the only way to be a mom.
“There is a way to become a mother in this day and age, which doesn’t include your name on the child’s birth certificate. You can express that maternal side, very clearly, very strongly…. It feels very satisfying.”
As for not having kids herself, it was a choice for Cattrall.
“I don’t know if I want it that much,” were her thoughts at the time.
But she’s been very present in her niece and nephew’s lives and continues to do so. “I didn’t change nappies, which is okay with me, but I did help my niece get through medical school. I did sit down with my nephew when he was [going through] a very tough time to join the army. And those are very motherly things to do, very nurturing things to do.”
