Drew Barrymore hit headlines this week when she ranked Jake Gyllenhaal as her least talented co-star in a game of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts”, but she made sure to tell the actor she was only joking as she stepped out in Los Angeles Thursday night.
The 43-year-old hilariously held onto an “I heart Jake Gyllenhaal” sign as she attended the season 2 premiere of her Netflix show “Santa Clarita Diet”.
Barrymore, who looked as stunning as ever in a chic red dress, pulled faces at the cameras as she got her point across.
She also spoke to reporters about the whole thing, with her insisting she only made the comments on James Corden’s “Late Late Show” because she didn’t want to eat a turkey testicle.
“I made a joke about Jake which was pertinent to the question and people don’t read the fine print. They don’t, you know, if they saw the show, they would see I was saying, ‘Jake, like, I’m so sorry to do this, it’s only to not eat a turkey’s testicle.'”
Barrymore then added that she “woke up to headlines everywhere” suggesting she’d hit out at Gyllenhaal for being the least talented person she’d ever worked with.
“I’m like, who – first of all, in this day and age, really this is an interesting headline? B: Everybody get a life. C: If you see the show or read the fine print it’s the least insulting thing ever, or at least I thought so.
“I tried to make it the least insulting and, you know, I guess people are just desperate for a headline so here is my antidote, b***hes. I love him, he’s great.”
Barrymore’s comments come after she named Adam Sandler as her most talented co-star, Hugh Grant as her second and Gyllenhaal as her third.
However, she did add of her “Donnie Darko” co-star: “When I run into him next time, I’ll be like, ‘Dude, it was selling you down the river or eating turkey’s balls.’
“I’m sorry, Jake, it was the turkey testicles!”
