David Letterman’s rare interview with Jay-Z is a candid affair.
The hip-hop artist and business mogul tells Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” about his thoughts on the Trump administration and the state of the U.S.
“I’m beginning to lose confidence in the Trump administration,” Letterman confesses before asking Jay-Z, “What do you think of that?”
“I think it’s actually a great thing,” Jay-Z replies. That is not to say the “99 Problems” rapper believes the U.S. is problem-free, but he argues that Trump is “forcing people to… have a conversation and band together and work together.
“You can’t really address something that’s not revealed,” says the musician. “[Trump] is bringing out an ugly side of America that we wanted to believe was gone… We still gotta deal with it. We have to have tough conversations – talk about the N-word, talk about why white men are so privileged in this country.”
Host Letterman has no problem sharing his opinion about the U.S. president. “I’m tellin’ you, [if] you’re having a debate over whether a guy’s a racist, chances are that guy’s a racist,” he says of Trump.
Jay-Z’s appearance on “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” airs Friday on Netflix.
