The original Spanish-language music video from Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is the first YouTube video to surpass 5 billion views.
By comparison, the English remix featuring Canadian superstar Justin Bieber has been viewed around 7.6 million times.
The “Despacito” visuals were released on Jan. 12, 2017 and surpassed Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” in August to claim the number one spot.

Both the original song and the remix with Bieber helped propel Latin music to the forefront of mainstream worldwide pop.
