“Kate Plus 8” fans can expect another injection of their favourite reality TV program, minus Jon Gosselin, of course.
Kate Gosselin will star in TLC’s new spinoff, appropriately called “Kate Plus Date!”
The series will explore Gosselin’s dating life as she looks for love following her 2009 divorce from Jon after 10 years of marriage. “I’m nervous, I’m excited, and I’m forcing myself to do this,” Gosselin told People.
Her family have really grown up since “Kate Plus 8” premiered all the way back in 2007. Gosselin’s eldest daughters, Mady and Cara, are 17 and will be heading to college in the fall of 2019.
That leaves Gosselin with five of her sextuplets — Aaden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah, and Leah — while Collin is enrolled in a program away from home.
“As we’re talking about Mady and Cara going off to college, which is becoming more and more of a reality, it’s gonna happen, it almost became like a worry for them, too, like ‘Mommy, you’re gonna be all alone soon,’” she said.
So it turns out her kids are a driving force in having their mom dive back into the dating game: “But it was very apparent, now that they’re older and talking about dating and how they’re all gonna get married someday… it became apparent: They want someone for me. They want me to have somebody in my life.
“I stopped focusing on myself — I used to be a runner, and all of these things sort of fell by the wayside, and I sort of forgot about the dating thing,” she explained. “It’s never really fit into my life.”
And while most might be intimidated by the prospect of having their dating life documented on camera, it actually puts Gosselin at ease.
“If I’m going to date someone, I can’t just go out on a date — it’s creepy to me to think of just going out somewhere with some stranger, and so I actually feel like doing it like this is the best and safest way for me to go on a date — a camera crew will be there! I’ll be safe!” she insisted. “And the person will have been vetted by a matchmaker.
“I won’t be just doing some scary online thing… This is probably the safest way for me to date, let’s be honest.”
“Kate Plus Date!” premieres this fall.
