Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has launched a campaign to raise awareness Lyme disease, as well as raise money to help treat those afflicted.

After suffering from the disease herself, Lavigne, 31, is now on the road to recovery.

The global campaign began on September 27, Lavigne’s birthday, and concludes on November 9. All proceeds will support the Avril Lavigne Foundation on working with children and young adults who have Lyme disease by providing them with grants to afford treatment.

“I’m excited that this year’s campaign is supporting people with Lyme disease and helping others to better understand the issue,” Lavigne says. “My fans are always so supportive and ready to give back; I look forward to coming together for an issue that’s so close to me.”

A grand prize winner will be randomly selected to hang out with Lavigne and even get a speaking role in her upcoming animated film Charming.
