We’ve seen Jason Statham take on more than his fair share of nasty bad guys in numerous films, but his latest role sees him dive deeper than ever before to take on a prehistoric shark — the biggest ever in recorded history.
In this new trailer for “The Meg” (above), an international deep-sea observation program is exploring the bottom of the ocean when their underwater station is attacked by a massive Megalodon, a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark thought extinct.
Their only hope: expert deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham). Taylor finds himself facing off with the world’s biggest shark in the upcoming film, which also stars Winston Chao, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai and Masi Oka.
So how does it end? No spoilers here, but anyone who’s ever seen a Statham film would be crazy to bet on the shark.
“The Meg” opens August 10; in the meantime, check out how Twitter reacted to the just-released trailer.
