A year after her pregnancy forced her to cancel last year’s headlining spot at Coachella, Beyonce took to the stage at this year’s fest with an electrifying performance highlighted by a reunion of Destiny’s Child.
Joined onstage by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, the trio was initially seen in silhouette before dramatically launching into their 2004 hit “Lose My Breath”, followed by “Say My Name” and “Soldier”.
While the reunion of Destiny’s Child was a showstopper, it was one of many highlights during Queen Bey’s highly anticipated Coachella set on Saturday night.
During the nearly two-hour performance, Beyonce included “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, a song that has been called the “Black American National Anthem,” and samples from the music of Nina Simone, in addition to quotes from civil rights activist Malcolm X and feminist author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
In addition to Destiny’s Child, Beyonce was also joined by sister Solange Knowles, and then welcomed husband Jay-Z to the stage for a duet of their 2012 hit “Deja Vu”.
Beyonce’s performance caught the attention of former Coachella headliner Adele, who shared video of herself on Instagram, ecstatically dancing — and even twerking! — along to Beyonce’s performance.
