David Cronenberg turned down the opportunity to direct the season premiere of True Detective, the Canadian director revealed during a press conference at the Reykjavik International Film Festival on Thursday.

“Last year I was approached to direct the first episode of the second season of True Detective,”; he told the crowd. “I considered it but I thought that the script was bad, so I didn’t do it. In TV, the director is just a traffic cop, but on the other hand it is work and there’s a lot of it.”;

The season opener would eventually be helmed by Fast & Furious director Justin Lin.

The second season of True Detective welcomed Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn on board, but failed to garner the stellar reviews of season one.
