Get ready for more ringside action from the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, with Netflix announcing the imminent arrival of more “GLOW”.
The second season of the 1980s-set female wrestling comedy will debut in June, with the streaming service teasing the upcoming season with an ’80s-style video in which star Alison Brie and the rest of the cast sing the vintage hit “Maniac” from the “Flashdance” soundtrack.
Speaking with Deadline, Brie discussed the popularity of the show’s breakout first season.
“It’s really positive. Everyone has something they can relate to,” she said. “We have 14 women on the show.”
Since the first season aired last year, the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements have fostered a growing sense of female empowerment that’s permeating all aspects of society, which is perfectly aligned with the show’s themes.
As Brie explains, the upcoming premiere of the second season “is great timing and is resonating with audiences,” but she notes that “the stories our show was going to tell would have been the same. MeToo and Times’s Up are things people have been saying behind closed doors for a long time in our industry. It makes me very grateful as an actress to go to work every day. There are women behind and in front of the camera and at the top making decisions. It makes a big difference to feel really seen and heard on set and have ownership of yourself.”
A few months back, Brie shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set on Instagram:
You can catch the entire second season of “GLOW” when it debuts on Friday, June 29.
