Oprah Winfrey Responds To ‘Frivolous’ Lawsuit Claiming She Ripped Off Screenwriter’s Idea For TV Show

Oprah Winfrey is being taken to court following a claim that she stole a television show idea, reports TMZ.

Shannan Lynette Wynn, a screenwriter, claims she and her partner, a pastor, reached out to Winfrey and her team about a religious drama set within a mega-church, titled “Justice and Glory”.

According to the pair, both Winfrey and execs at the Oprah Winfrey Network loved the idea.

Court documents obtained by TMZ state Wynn and her partner were asked by OWN to contribute more ideas, but eventually stopped hearing from the company. According to their lawsuit, it was a few years later that the pair were shocked to see the network’s original series “Greenleaf”, featuring characters and storylines that were identical to the ones they had pitched.

Both Wynn and the paster claim they had also pitched the idea to ABC but were turned down, and believe that ABC colluded with Winfrey to rip them off.

They are seeking hundreds of thousands in damages.

Winfrey has since responded to the “frivolous” claims.

According to The Blast, the media maven says the pair who filed the lawsuit “either do not understand copyright law or are pursuing it notwithstanding its manifest lack of merit.”
