Following a shocking investigative report in the Washington Post containing more allegations of sexual misconduct, members of R. Kelly’s inner circle are cutting ties with the controversial rapper.
According to Pitchfork, attorney Linda Mensch, assistant Diana Copeland and publicist Trevian Kutti have all quit following the latest allegations, involving a Texas woman who claims that the rapper gave her a sexually transmitted infection when she was 19 while she was “being groomed to join Kelly’s sex cult,” which allegedly preys on aspiring young singers.
The new allegations dovetail with earlier claims from a BuzzFeed report in which several young women told similar stories of being forced into the so-called sex cult, in which all aspects of their lives were controlled, “from what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records.”
Accusations were first levelled against Kelly in 2000, with the Chicago Sun-Times reporting that Kelly allegedly had sex with several underage girls, some as young as 14. In 2008, a jury found him not guilty on 14 counts of child pornography.
