Nick Jonas paid tribute to DJ and music producer Avicii, who passed away at age 28 on Friday, during a concert on Friday night.
Performing in Akron, Ohio, Jonas accompanied himself on acoustic guitar for an emotional, stripped-down cover of “Wake Me Up!”, Avicii’s 2013 hit collaboration with Aloe Blacc.
“Rest in peace, Avicii,” Jonas told the audience before launching into the song, with the crowd joining for an emotional singalong.
Jonas shared video of the performance on social media.
Jonas wasn’t the only artist to honour Avicii on the day of his passing. During his set at Coachella on Friday, Kygo dedicated a song to the late star.
“Hey Coachella, I think most have you guys have heard, but today is a very sad day for music. Earlier today, I got the news that Avicci passed away at only 28 years old,” Kygo told the audience. “Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration and he was the reason I started making electronic music.”
He added: “So I don’t think I would have been on this stage tonight if it wasn’t for him and I know he has inspired millions of other producers out there. So I want to end my set tonight with my favourite Avicii song. In honour of Avicii, I want you guys to dance and sing along and celebrate the life of a true musical genius. This next song is called ‘Without You.’”
