Looks like Matt Damon will have to start looking for a new best friend now that Ben Affleck has officially forsaken him for TV nemesis Jimmy Kimmel.
Or at least that’s the gist of the joking tweet Affleck issued on Friday, referencing a Gossip Cop story reporting on whether Damon had “replaced” Affleck with Chris Hemsworth “as new best friend.” It cited a story in the National Enquirer claiming that Damon is moving to distance himself from his “Good Will Hunting” co-star due to Affleck’s scandals, in order to “save his reputation.”
The Enquirer further claimed that Damon and his wife have recently been “buddying up with Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky.”
Tweeted Affleck: “Hey @chrishemsworth, you can have him! I’m Team @JimmyKimmel anyways.”
As viewers of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” are well aware, the host and Damon have engaged in a hilarious faux feud for years, which hit its peak a few years back when Damon kidnapped Kimmel and took over the show for a night.
Hemsworth joined in the fun, tweeting that the tabloid-reported rift is “not my fault,” citing Affleck’s role as the Dark Knight as the reason:
