Being a performer at Coachella doesn’t prevent you from being beaten up by security personnel at the California music fest, as rapper Belly discovered while watching The Weeknd perform.
Mere hours after he took to the stage at Coachella, shocking video footage obtained by TMZ (above) shows Belly being pummelled by numerous people wearing red t-shirts identifying them as members of the music festival’s security team.
According to TMZ, Belly — who actually collaborated with The Weeknd on the hit “Might Not” — was one of several people walking from the sound booth to the VIP area near the stage while The Weeknd performed.
For reasons not yet know, Belly is suddenly attacked by about 10 men who appear to be part of the Coachella security staff, throwing punches at the rapper for several seconds.
According to TMZ, police were not involved, and by the time cops showed up all the parties involved had dispersed, and no police report was taken.
In a series of tweets, Belly appears to address the incident, insisting he’s fine and that no amount of negativity can bring him down after what he describes as the “best night of my life.”
TMZ has reached out to Coachella organizers and reps for Belly, but have yet to receive a response.
