ET Canada’s Matte Babel is on the set of Melissa McCarthy’s “Life Of The Party”, where he discovered the actress is making her new comedy a family affair.
There’s no complaints to be had on the set when the man behind the camera is none other than McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone.
“I am in a sensible shoe, comfortable pant, wearing a dickie, not only a second layer but a third layer, the director is being agreeable, I guess,” she laughs. “The director is my lovely husband.”
It’s not the first time McCarthy and Falcone have teamed up on or off the screen either. After playing the undercover Air Marshall Jon in “Bridesmaids”, Falcone has also directed his wife in the big-screen comedies “The Boss” and “Tammy”, which he also made cameo appearances in.
“He’s never the problem,” she continues with a laugh. “I’m a monster. He’s a super smart funny guy and we love being here.”
Falcone isn’t the only family member on set as McCarthy reveals the couple’s two daughters also make an appearance.
“Our daughters and the writer’s daughters are also in it… they are all best friends,” she says. “I was pregnant [at] the same as his wife and they play the flower girls in this.”
The new movie follows a middle-aged mom (McCarthy), who returns to school to finish her degree after she’s blindsided by a divorce filing from her husband. Being back on campus for the comedy has McCarthy reminiscing about her own college years.
“I learned during my college years that I wasn’t ready to attend college,” she jokes. “I mostly went out and tried to book bands for the bar we went to that really became my main occupation.”
Catch “Life Of The Party” in theatres on May 11.
