Shawn Mendes has just released a new video for his latest single, “In My Blood”, and it’s a mind-bender!

In the video, the 19-year-old Canadian pop phenom is seen lying on his back on a brick surface as he sings the song. Before long, chunks of concrete start falling from the ceiling, exploding all around him as they crash to the ground.

As soon as the concrete stops falling, snowflakes begin to float down, which then transforms to rain before he’s pelted with small hailstones.

Gradually, the bricks he’s laying atop begin giving way to grass and flowers that push their way up through the cracks, until the bricks have completely given way to a lush meadow.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Mendes explained that “In My Blood” is about his first experience with anxiety.

“I’m really proud of it,” he said of the song. “I think, especially, comparing that to all of my other music — I love all of my other songs, but… it was all kind of more vague topics about a relationship, and this is my first time breaking into something that’s more serious and more about me.”

He added: “The concept of this song is about how it feels [when] you’re about to give up and then you don’t. That’s the whole payoff in the chorus section… It’s about something that I think everybody goes through and it’s something that I think people don’t talk about often, especially in music.”
