Cardi B’s former manager is suing the “MotorSport” rapper for no less than $10 million.
Klenord “Shaft” Raphael, his label KSR, and his management company WorldStar Marketing Group filed the lawsuit. Among the claims against Cardi are breach of contract, unjust enrichment and defamation.
“Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image,” Shaft’s rep said in a statement to Variety. “While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint.”
“Shaft is confident that his lawsuit will validate his conduct and substantiate his legal claims,” the statement continued. Shaft said he orchestrated Cardi’s breakout role on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: New York”, and worked diligently behind the scenes to network and push forward her music career.
Shaft provided heated text exchanges with both Cardi and her husband Offset, of Migos, as evidence of defamation in the lawsuit.
Cardi has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
