Kanye West wants to put the past behind him the best way he knows how: through his music.
The “Black Skinhead” rapper is looking to make amends with cosmetic surgeon Jan Adams for whom West wields a deep grudge.
“This is my album cover,” he texted Adams’ mugshot to an unknown recipient. “This is plastic surgeon Jan Adams. The person who performed my mom’s final surgery… Do you have any title ideas? I want to forgive and stop hating.”
The recipient replied with “LOVE EVERYONE.” The potential title resonated with West who replied, “I love that.”
Adams, now 64, performed a tummy tuck, liposuction and breast reduction on the rapper’s mom Donda West in 2007. One day after the surgery, West passed away at 53 years old.
Despite West blaming Adams for his mom’s death, an autopsy revealed the causes of death as a preexisting coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors, including pain-control medication and tight bandaging, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Adams addressed an open letter to West, thanking him for considering using his image as an album cover and applauding the artist for his efforts to move on from the past. “Unfortunately, I have to decline,” Adams wrote.
“I don’t want to seem ungrateful,” he continued. “I just think that if in fact this conversation to love is genuine on your part… then it’s inappropriate to drag the negativity of the past with it.”
West thanked Adams for his letter and said, “I can’t wait to sit with you and start healing.”
Adams has since had his medical licence revoked following alcohol-related offences unrelated to Donda’s death.
Earlier the same day, West revealed he buried another hatchet after posting a selfie with John Legend. The two stars briefly beefed over West’s support for U.S. President Donald Trump.
