Kristen Bell has spoken out about her ongoing battle with anxiety and depression in a powerful new video.
The 37-year-old, who has partnered up with The Child Mind Institute‘s #MyYoungerSelf campaign to help end the stigma of mental health and learning disorders, revealed she’s battled with mental illness since she was 18-years-old.
Urging others not to be “fooled by this game of perfection that humans play,” Bell told the camera: “Instagram and magazines and TV shows strive for a certain aesthetic and everything looks so beautiful and people seem like they don’t have any problems.”
She continued, “But everyone’s human. Everyone has problems. Everyone feels yucky on the inside sometimes.”
“You deserve to feel just as beautiful on the days you wear no makeup and the days you don’t shower and the days you feel like you’re depressed,” she explained. “You have an obligation to take care of yourself from the inside out, because that’s how you can truly feel beautiful.”
Bell concluded, “You are not alone, never feel embarrassed or ashamed about who you are.”
The actress is one of an array of stars who have spoken out about their story in a bid to raise awareness for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Other stars including Gabrielle Union, James Van Der Beek, Brittany Snow and Sarah Silverman have also taken part in the campaign.
