Meghan Trainor drops by The Ellen DeGeneres Show today to give her first interview since having surgery on her vocal cords earlier this year, forcing her to cancel a lucrative tour.

The “All About That Bass”; singer also gives her first post-surgery performance — and it’s a duet with soon-to-be first-time daddy John Legend.

Discussing her surgery, Meghan explains that she was on tour and “on top of the world”; when she noticed it had begun to feel painful when she spoke. “I went to some random doctor I could find close by,”; she says. “And he saw hemorrhaging, which is when your little tiny vocal cords bleed. Which is not the best. So right away we had to cancel a week in the beginning of the tour.”;

Following her rest, she went back on tour, but the condition was worsened by a bout of bronchitis. “Coughing and talking and singing was just my cords, beating them up,”; she tells Ellen.

Hoping to avoid surgery, a doctor told her she could heal her vocal cords naturally — but it would involve “four months not talking,”; says Meghan. “Nobody has that time.”;
