Drake sampled “Ex-Factor” and now Lauryn Hill has returned the favour, as she remixed the rapper’s “Nice For What” during her New York show on Tuesday.
Hill, 42, was in the middle of performing her smash hit at the Apollo Theater when she decided to mix it up a little and, instead, belt out Drake’s song.
The musician rapped along to lyrics, including, “See this is ‘Ex-Factor’/He took the sample/My s**t is classic/Here’s an example.”
Hill is said to have been hours late for Tuesday night’s show but clearly made up for lost time as she sang an array of hits, including tracks by her band the Fugees.
The singer, who was a member of the group before she went solo in the early ’90s, recently announced that she’d be heading out on tour to mark the 20th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which was released in August 1998.
Hill will be revisiting her critically acclaimed solo album with a bunch of North American dates, kicking things off July 5 in Virginia.
The first Canadian stop is in Toronto on July 18 at the Budweiser Stage; the second is in Vancouver on Sept. 14 at the Festival Lawn at Deer Lake Park.
