After six years, music icon Christina Aguilera is making her comeback.
The 37-year-old talked to Billboard magazine about her upcoming 11-track album Liberation, and having Kanye West produce two of the songs: “Maria” and her new single “Accelerate”.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Kanye,” said the singer. “Outside of, you know, his controversial aspects, I just think he’s a great artist and music maker and beat maker. The artists that he chooses to pluck from different walks of life are so interesting.”
The “Ain’t No Other Man” singer also revealed she collaborated with Demi Lovato for a duet titled “Fall In Line”.
“We went through a few names of women. I needed a belty singer, and she took it to the next level. I almost cried when I first heard her on the record,” Aguilera said.
The five-time Grammy Award-winning artist also shared her excitement, and nerves, for her upcoming tour — her first one in a decade. “Touring is so frightening to me because I am a mom first,” she admits. “It’s part of why I stayed in the position I was at ‘The Voice’. It’s easy to get comfortable and cushy in the same place and not have to worry about uprooting your kids. I’ve been putting myself on the back burner.
“It needs to happen. I’m looking forward to getting back out and actually showing my kids what Mommy really does!”
After being a coach on the “The Voice” from 2011 to 2016, Aguilera shared why she would never return to the hit singing competition show.
“It became something that I didn’t feel was what I had signed up for in season 1,” she said. “You realize it’s not about music. It’s about making good TV moments and massaging a story.”
“I didn’t get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these rules. Especially as a female: You can’t wear this, can’t say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet.”
Aguilera’s seventh studio album Liberation drops June 15.
