May 5 was supposed to be the day John Cena and Nikki Bella said “I Do” before calling off their engagement last month.
In the wake of their split, Cena told E! last month, “Nicole knows I love her and I miss her, but that is what it is. And I’m still here, still going — and I choose to go.”
On Saturday, the actor and WWE star marked the date he and his former fiancee had originally set for their nuptials with a tweet expressing a similarly positive sentiment.
Cena wasn’t the only one sharing cryptic messages on social media to mark the sad day. Bella posted an image on Instagram on Friday with the message, “Chin up princess or the crown slips.”
Cena, meanwhile, posted an image of the book Zero Day by Kresley Cole on Friday.
Cena and Bella got engaged when the wrestler proposed to her on live TV during WrestleMania 33 in April 2017.
Announcing their split last month, the couple released a statement that said, “While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”
