May 7 marks the first Monday of the month and that can only mean one thing – the Met Gala.
Each year, Hollywood’s A-listers flock to the fundraiser at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, but U.S. President Donald Trump will no longer be on the guest list.
The President and First Lady have attended fashion’s biggest night numerous times and it was revealed that the Met Gala seems to have a special place in the President’s heart. The reason? The businessman popped the question to Melania back in 2004.
The future First Lady was photographed that night wearing a 15-carat diamond engagement ring, which was rumoured to be worth $1.5 million.
“It was a great surprise. We are very happy together,” Melania told the New York Post at the time of the engagement.
However, Vogue editor-in-chief and host of the annual gala, Anna Wintour, made it very clear that she would never invite Trump back to the Met Gala while appearing on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” late last year.
“Anna, you famously host the celebrated Met Gala that takes place in Manhattan each year. Celebrities from all walks of life are desperate to get a ticket. Everyone from Beyonce to George Clooney attends. So my question is, who would you never invite back to the Met Gala?” Corden asked.
Wintour immediately replied, “Donald Trump.”
So, it looks like this year the couple will not be making an appearance on the Met Gala red carpet.
