Are you ready for it?!
Taylor Swift officially kicked off her Reputation stadium tour at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Tuesday. The “Look What You Made Me Do” singer-songwriter gave it her all, belting out songs from her new album, as well as some of her greatest hits, including “You Belong With Me”, “Trouble”, “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off” and many more.
Swift opened her show with “Ready For It” and wore a black shimmering sequin jumpsuit with a hood and matching thigh-high boots. Her shaggy blonde hair was down and she rocked a bold red lip. Dancers surrounded her and busted out some great choreography all around the stage.
The pop icon later brought out Camila Cabello and Charli XCX — who opened for the headliner — to join her for a performance of “Shake It Off”.
Even Swift’s stage design was epic and constantly changing — from the psychedelic jumbotron images displayed during a few of the fun numbers, to the massive golden throne which sat atop a large pivoting platform that Swift sat in while singing “King of My Heart”.
The singer also embraced Reputation‘s serpentine theme, with giant golden anacondas that appeared to be writhing on the enormous screens at the back of the expansive stage — not to mention the almost-frighteningly large vipers that towered over concertgoers from the audience.
She also surprised fans with a performance of “Bad Blood”, hours after she appeared to officially end her rumoured long-running feud with Katy Perry. The singer took to her Instagram story hours before the show to reveal that the “Swish Swish” singer had mailed her an actual olive branch, along with a handwritten, conciliatory letter.
However, Swift didn’t really shy away from addressing her feud with Kim Kardashian West. During the show, the singer addressed the slew of snakes, explaining, “You might be wondering why there are so many snakes… well a few years ago someone called me a snake on social media.”
Clearly, she’s embraced the snake symbolism and reclaimed it for herself.
Overall, Swift gave her fans a night to remember, with a mega-show that consisted of eight fabulous costume changes, among them a snake-print suit, sequins and plenty of glitter. Fans were also doused in black-and-white newspaper-themed confetti, which Swift had previously teased days before the tour launched. The same piano that the GRAMMY winner showed off last week was also visibly present during her set.
Prior to taking the stage, Swift posed with her “stadium tour mates,” Cabello and Charli XCX.
Swift’s Glendale show broke the venue’s concert attendance record, which was previously held by One Direction with 56,524 fans. The singer’s next stop will be Santa Clara, California, for a two-night run at Levi’s Stadium, before heading to Pasadena’s famous Rose Bowl.
