FKA Twigs took to Instagram Wednesday to confirm that she’d had six tumours removed from her uterus.
The 30-year-old, who likes to keep her private life private, told her 1.2 million followers that she’d secretly undergone laparoscopic surgery back in December.
Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, explained: “I have gone back and forth in my mind whether to share that this year I have been recovering from laparoscopic surgery to remove six fibroid tumours from my uterus.”
“The tumours were pretty huge, the size of two cooking apples, three kiwis, and a couple of [strawberries]. A fruit bowl of pain everyday. The nurse said that the weight and size was like being 6-months pregnant.”
Twigs continued to say that she “tried to be brave” but the pain was “excruciating at times.” She continued, “To be honest I started to doubt if my body would ever feel the same again.”
The musician added in the lengthy message: “I know that a lot of women suffer from fibroid tumours and I just wanted to say after my experience that you are amazing warriors and that you are not alone. You can get through this.”
The news comes after Twigs reportedly split from her former fiance Robert Pattinson last year. Although the private couple stayed fairly quiet about their romance, Pattinson did admit that he was “kind of” engaged during an interview in August.
