Anna Wintour agreed with Scarlett Johansson’s decision to wear a dress by Georgina Chapman at this year’s Met Gala as she appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday.
Colbert, 53, questioned Wintour, 68, on her favourite looks of the evening, before he pulled out a picture of Johansson, 33, who wore the dress in question as more of a statement and less to go with the “Heavenly Bodies” theme of the night.
Vogue‘s editor-in-chief said of the actress: “I totally agree with that. I mean, Georgina is a brilliant designer, and I don’t think that she should be blamed for her husband’s behaviour.
“I think it was a great gesture of support on Scarlett’s part to wear a dress like that, a beautiful dress like that on such a public occasion.”
Wintour also praised the outfits of Rihanna, Madonna, and Amal Clooney, just to name a few.
Her comments come after Johansson released a statement to explain why she’d chosen to wear a dress designed by the ex-wife of disgraced filmmaker Harvey Weinstein.
She said, according to E! News: “I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers.”
