Vanessa Kirby spoke about The Queen’s reaction to “The Crown” as she appeared on Friday’s “The Graham Norton Show”.
The 30-year-old, who starred as Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of the hit Netflix series, said that one of Her Majesty’s granddaughters had gone up to a friend of hers at a party to tell him what her “granny” thought of the show.
Kirby explained, “A friend of mine was at a party where he didn’t know anyone so sidled up to a group who were discussing the show. One of the women said, ‘My granny kind of likes it.’”
“It turns out it was one of the princesses – The Queen’s granddaughter. It’s quite a reliable source – ish – so I am sure she is a fan.”
Kirby went on to speak further about playing such an iconic role, with her gushing about Margaret: “I love her with all my heart. I couldn’t love her more.”
The actress is now passing on the role to Helena Bonham Carter, who she said “has been lovely.”
Kirby gushed, “I am so pleased Helena is taking her on. She told me she will need some Margaret lessons.”
Her comments come after Netflix confirmed that Bonham Carter, 51, would be starring in the third season.
The “Harry Potter” favourite said in a statement: “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret.
“The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter.”
