Willow Smith recently shocked her mom Jada Pinkett Smith, after revealing she had once self-harmed.
On the latest episode of their Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk,” the mother-daughter duo, along with Pinkett-Smith’s mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, centred their conversation around dealing with loss, to which Pinkett-Smith asked her daughter what she felt her greatest loss was.

The 17-year-old singer and actress revealed that she felt as though she had lost her “sanity” shortly after her wildly popular song “Whip My Hair” came out back in 2010.
“It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this grey area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?'” the singer revealed.
“After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album,” she continued. “And I was like, I’m not gonna do that. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself.”
Jada and Adrienne were immediately taken aback and shared that they had no idea the young “Everything Stays” singer had ever gone through that.
“What? When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?” Jada quickly responded.
“On my wrist. I mean, you can’t even see it but there’s still a little something there,” Willow explained. “But like, totally lost my sanity for a moment there. I never talk about it because it was such a short weird point in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it.”

Willow went on to explain that she started self-harming after she felt her emotional pain wasn’t being reflected on the outside.
The young star also revealed that she never shared this aspect of her life with her family, including her dad Will Smith and older brother Jaden Smith, but rather confided in a friend.
Willow stated that she eventually stopped after she realized it was “actually psychotic.”
“That’s good to freaking know!” the mom of three exclaimed after Willow finished her story. “Willow, I had no idea. I never saw any signs of that.”
