James Corden is used to belting out pop songs in his “Carpool Karaoke” segments, but it turns out he also has a secret background in singing TV theme songs.
On Monday night’s edition of “The Late Late Show,” the host appeared in a sketch about his early days in the entertainment industry, before he broke into the mainstream.
In the video, the 39-year-old comedian, wearing a badly fitting blonde wig, arrives at a recording studio to lay down some vocals for the “Seinfeld” theme song. Armed with a ‘lyric sheet,’ Corden enters the booth ready for his big break.
Given that the theme is almost entirely instrumental, Corden spends most of the time stood around waiting. All he is required to do is deliver a lip pop and an exhale at the end of the track.
The sketch was recorded in honour of “Seinfeld”, which is celebrating 20 years since it aired its series finale. Approximately 76 million people watched the last episode of the popular American sitcom, which ran for nine seasons on NBC.
