Bryan Fuller has hit out at the recently released “Bohemian Rhapsody” trailer, featuring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, for seemingly ignoring the late singer’s sexuality and his battle with AIDS.
Fuller, 48, tweeted after the trailer was unveiled Tuesday.
The “Hannibal” creator pointed out that Mercury had been married to Mary Austin, but also dated men. The music legend, who passed away in 1991, spent many years in a committed relationship with Jim Hutton.
He later added:
“Bohemian Rhapsody” is set to be released November 2 and follows the iconic band’s journey to superstardom.
The trailer shows the group — also consisting of John Deacon (played by Joseph Mazzello), Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) and Brian May (Gwilym Lee) — forming back in 1970 before the camera cuts to them creating the masterpiece that is “Bohemian Rhapsody”, among numerous other hits, in the studio.
The movie leads up to the group’s legendary appearance at the Live Aid concert back in 1985, which attracted more than a billion viewers worldwide.
