Jet Li has been suffering the effects of a serious thyroid disorder.
Over the weekend, a fan posted a photo with the 55-year-old martial arts superstar, revealing him to look aged and frail as a result of “hyperthyroidism and spinal problems.”
According to TMZ, Li revealed his battle with hyperthyroidism in 2013, but has continued starring in films, including the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s “Mulan”.
Li’s fans online responded to the photo with shock and sadness.
However, the action star’s manager manager says Li’s health is nowhere near as dire as that photo would make it seem, blaming bad lighting and insisting he’s “completely fine.”
“He has hyperthyroidism that he’s been dealing with for almost 10 years. It’s nothing life-threatening and he’s dealing with it,” Li’s manager, Steven Chasman, told The Washington Post, also telling USA Today that the whole thing is “much ado about nothing.”
“We appreciate everyone’s concern. But Jet is completely fine,” Chasman tells USA Today. “There’s nothing wrong with him. There’s no life-threatening illness. He’s in great shape.”
